    Senior Database Administrator


    Requires 7+ years of Oracle and SQL Server Data Base Administration. Reviews, evaluates, designs, implements, and maintains corporate databases. Administers, maintains, develops, and implement policies, and procedures for ensuring the security and integrity of the company databases. Implements data models and database designs, data access, and table maintenance codes. Resolves database performance issues, database capacity issues, replication, and other distributed data issues. Requires excellent analytical, problem solving, oral, and written communication skills. Experience with Oracle E-Business suite required. Strong knowledge of Unix is required. Knowledge of Shareplex and AppWorx highly desirable. Requires a B.A./B.S. in CS/CIS/IS/MIS or related field or equivalent.

    Responsibilities

    -Perform advanced monitoring, hardware, software and operational support of corporate databases in a 24 x 7, on-call, information technology environment 

    -Provide comprehensive architectural planning and design recommendations for the entire Oracle application stack, and all production databases.

    -Proactively review existing environments on an on-going basis, making recommendations as necessary to ensure proper application performance and maintenance.

    -Monitoring

    -Provide leadership on the tools (Quest and others), standards, processes, and procedures for effectively monitoring all corporate databases and the Oracle technology stack

    -Monitor various databases and proactively resolve any potential issue.

    -Write scripts to monitor the availability and performance of various components of Oracle eBusiness.

    -Master Foglight and other Quest tools, demonstrating full knowledge and understanding of how to:

    -Resolve performance and application issues

    -Monitor and proactively alert the team when issues are happening.

    -Provide capacity planning

    -Explain the nature and significance of the metrics being reported. 

     

    -Performance

    -Provide leadership on tools (Quest and others), configuration, utilization, and hardware/software upgrades to provide effective turning and optimal system performance

    -Proactively monitor, analyze, and tune system performance for both the corporate Oracle databases and Oracle technology stac

    -Ensure proper sizing and capacity planning for all production databases and Oracle applications Servers

     

    -Issue Resolution

    -Perform troubleshooting and problem resolution of very complex database issue

    -Apply diagnostic techniques to isolate root causes and recommended corrective actions for application performance issues

    -Leverage Oracle Support when appropriate, consulting with them early in the process to ensure timely issue resolution

    -Provide timely communication on current issue status and potential resolution

     

    -Lead database upgrade projects, and actively participate in application upgrade projects

    -Maintain and distribute the project schedules for database projects

    -Manage and communicate with external vendors

    -Recommend, create and implement IS policies, standards, and procedures 

    -Provide mentoring for all IS Development staff and DBAs

    -Perform troubleshooting and problem resolution of very complex database issues

    -Create, and maintain extensions to standard Oracle functionality

    -Interface with Application Developers to ensure smooth operation, and integration of internally developed systems

    -Articipate in training activities as applicable

    -Maintain current knowledge of database technology, and application development techniques

    -Adhere to all Quest and Information Services policies and procedures

    -Meet with other IS organizations to discuss operational issues, technology overlaps, etc

    -Perform all other tasks as assigned or required

    -Maintain the Concurrent Manager, the Workflow Mailer, the Forms Server and other components of Oracle eBusiness suite

    -Apply database patches and application (Oracle eBusiness) patches. Provide an impact assessment for specific patches

    Qualifications

    -Requires 7+ years of Oracle and SQL Server Data Base Administration

    -Requires excellent analytical, problem solving, oral, and written communication skills

    -Experience with Oracle E-Business suite required

    -Strong knowledge of Unix is required

    -Knowledge of Shareplex and AppWorx highly desirable

    -Requires a B.A./B.S. in CS/CIS/IS/MIS or related field or equivalent
