Manager, Quality Assurance & Release Management-Aliso Viejo, California
This important position is responsible for managing a team that drives to deliver high quality products through defect prevention throughout the software development lifecycle. This position will guide Quest IT’s quality processes with the goal of continually improving the effectiveness and efficiency of the Quality Assurance team.
The Quality Assurance Manager will provide general supervision and technical guidance to the QA Staff in the analysis, design, testing, and deployment of all Quest applications. You will maintain ultimate responsibility for assuring that all software releases into production are defect free and compliant with technical specifications.
The role involves quality & test advocacy, resource planning and management, and resolution of issues that impede the testing effort through multiple stages and environments, including Test, Deployment and Production Support.
Roles reporting to this manager include the following:
-Release Manager – coordinates with Project Managers and Development teams to manage the schedule of deployment activities of all IT applications
-QA Engineers – conduct system and integration testing on active projects, and conduct regression tests before the builds are deployed. Also responsible for “smoke testing” following software deployments.
-DBAs – participate in physical database design and tuning with development teams. Assist in production releases, provide production database monitoring and tuning when necessary, and perform periodical database backups.
-Application Support Engineer – provide first level support for Quest business applications
The manager must manage and implement an effective testing process. That involves creating a test infrastructure that supports robust communication and a cost-effective testing framework.
-Defining and implementing the role that testing plays within the IT organization
-Drive the growth of the team through the recruitment of top performing talents, and personal development of team members
-Provide technical guidance and mentorship to team members
-Manages expectations pertaining to establishment of accurate schedules and cost of resources
-Works with Project Managers to develop project schedules and resource allocation models for projects and other activities such as software deployment, and end-user integration
-Provides effective communication regarding issues, objectives, initiatives and performance to plan
-Anticipates program release problems and takes corrective action, escalating as needed, to resolve and meet commitments
-Orchestrates the delivery of software to end-users and customers, and is accountable for what is deployed
-Responsible for effectiveness and consistency of physical database design
-Energetic, motivated, and service-oriented
-5+ years of software quality assurance experience, to include a minimum of 3 years in a lead role or management position
-10+ years of industry experience in similar environment(s)
-Deep knowledge and experience with enterprise level business systems such as CRM, Order Management, Financials, Incentive Comp, etc.
-Software development/programming/scripting skills are desirable
-Strong analytical skills and experience with implementation and administration of Software Quality Assurance metrics, such as defect profiles and performance to entry/exit criteria
-Excellent problem solving, interpersonal communication and project management skills
-Experience and understanding of different software development life cycles (waterfall, iterative) and contemporary software quality assurance processes and automated tools
-Experience in managing and working with distributed team members
